Meet the New Mayor of Houghton Regis

We are delighted to introduce Councillor Michelle Herber, the newly elected Mayor of Houghton Regis for the 2025–2026 term.

Her cakes have brightened the days of many – including hard-working hospital porters.very October, Michelle co-hosts a popular neighbourhood Halloween display, attracting hundreds of children. Their annual Halloween Fest sees over 500 sweet bags handed out to local families, creating magical memories for young visitors as they enjoy the animated decorations.

Why I Chose to Stand as a Councillor

My goal as a councillor is to help bring meaningful improvements to Houghton Regis that enhance residents' quality of life and the environment in which we live.Like many, I am concerned about the ongoing problems of speeding vehicles—particularly on the A5/M1 link road—and reckless driving throughout the town. We also face issues with illegal motorcycle use, especially on footpaths, which puts pedestrians at risk.I want to be part of the solution to these challenges. The people of Houghton Regis deserve safer streets, better recreational facilities, and an improved quality of life.

My Priorities as Mayor

During my term, I aim to work closely with fellow Town Councillors to:

- Tackle the issues of nuisance motorcycle riding and speeding vehicles, especially along residential roads and the Woodside Link road.

- Ensure council decisions deliver the best value for Houghton Regis taxpayers.

- Advocate for fairer investment from Central Bedfordshire Council into our town.

- Protect and enhance our green spaces for the benefit of families and children.

- Champion visible policing to help reduce crime and improve community safety.

- Address ongoing concerns such as the need for a new cemetery, fly tipping, and dog waste.

I want to help restore pride in Houghton Regis, making it a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant place for all who live here.
