The Town Today

Located in the south of Central Bedfordshire, Houghton Regis is a vibrant, medium-sized town with around 19,773 residents and approximately 7,500 homes (Census 2021). The town is divided into three parish wards: Houghton Hall, Parkside, and Tithe Farm.

Houghton Regis offers a wide range of amenities and services for residents and visitors alike. These include Bedford Square shopping centre, a large Morrisons supermarket, two petrol stations, numerous neighbourhood shops, professional services, schools , a newly designed leisure centre, medical practices, a library, and community facilities such as the Memorial Hall.

The town also benefits from abundant parks, open spaces, and sports facilities.

The town has experienced rapid growth before: in the 1960s and 1970s, the development of Tithe Farm and Parkside estates transformed Houghton Regis from a rural village into a small town almost overnight. A similar period of expansion is now underway. By 2030, the town is set to double in size, with development focused on the northern areas of Linmere and Bidwell, including new housing, employment opportunities, retail, industry, education, community facilities, and recreation spaces.

Houghton Regis benefits from excellent transport links, proximity to the M1 motorway and the A5 facilitates easy travel to nearby towns and cities and the Luton-Dunstable Busway provides rapid transit services connecting Houghton Regis to Luton and Dunstable.

Exciting times lie ahead for Houghton Regis.
